Martha's Vineyard Scam Targets Resident With Calls, Letter
Edgartown police are trying to identify the suspect in a "harassing" scam to defraud a resident.
MARTHA'S VINEYARD, MA — Edgartown police are looking for the public's help in identifying the suspect in an aggressive scam to defraud an island resident. Police said the resident reported recently receiving several harassing phone calls from someone identifying themselves as being from "KeyBank" and even followed up with a hand-addressed letter delivered to the woman's residence.
Police said the resident found a suspicious envelope taped to her front door with the words "personal and confidential" written on the front. The letter included a demand for a "past due payment" to an Ohio bank and a return phone number police determined to be fake and fraudulent.
"This incident is still under investigation, but in the meantime we ask that you help us and share this post," Edgartown police said. "This scam is a bold attempt to deceive and financially compromise a citizen."
