Nantucket Plane Makes Emergency Vineyard Landing

Pilot made emergency landing Monday evening due to strange smell inside plane

A White Planes bound plane from Nantucket made an emergency landing at the Monday evening after the pilot smelled a strange odor on the plane.  According to the Nantucket Inquirer and Mirror, “the twin-engine Piper Chieftain aircraft, operated by the charter company Fly The Whale, a division of Lima NY Inc., landed safely on the Vineyard around 8 p.m. Monday night with nine passengers on board.”

The Martha’s Vineyard Times reported that fire crews and EMTs responded to the emergency landing from all across the Island and the airport was shut down for about 20 minutes. Though there was no evidence of fire, “there was a strong, unidentifiable odor” and airport manager Sean Flynn said that the pilot,  “landed safely and did a fantastic job. And all is well with the folks that were on the airplane."
