EDGARTOWN, MA — A day after saying Tropical Storm Isaias left the shore areas "a mess," Norton Point was declared "open for business" on Thursday.

The Trustees, which oversee the shoreline, said crews finished surveying the impacts of Tuesday's storm on Thursday and replaced signs, moved fencing and dropped the chain.

There was a warning that some parts of the trails remain off limits to over-sand vehicles due to storm erosion and unfledged shorebirds.

While Wasque was closed to OSV access on Thursday, it was open for parking and walking. Those testing the waters were warned that rip currents remain strong despite the quieter surf.

"Please watch children, especially," the Trustees said. "If you find yourself being pulled offshore by a current, do not panic! Swim parallel to the beach which will move you out of the effects of the rip current, or simply float along and the rip current will dissipate once it moves beyond the sand bars."
