MARTHA'S VINEYARD, MA – A portion of Lagoon Pond in Tisbury has been declared off limits to shellfishing because it no longer meets the state's bacterial requirements. Tisbury town officials announced on Tuesday that the Division of Marine Fisheries made the declaration when it comes to the West Arm of Lagoon Pond after examining the waters of Oak Bluffs, Tisbury and West Tisbury.

The prohibition went into effect as of sunrise on Tuesday.

The area of Lagoon Pond has been designed "Closed To Shellfishing" when it comes to digging, harvesting, collecting or attempting to dig, harvest, collect or possessing shellfish from the designated area in red in the above photo.
