R&B Lawyer Sells Vineyard Haven Home: $2.2 Million

The entertainment lawyer who, with the late singer Ruth Brown, co-founded the Rhythm & Blues Foundation has sold his Vineyard Haven home to a Connecticut couple for $2,200,000, according to Dukes County land records.

Howell E. Begle, Jr. and Julie Eilber sold their property at 117 William St. to spouses David A. Behnke and Paul F. Doherty of New Preston, CT July 2.

Begle is the founding director emeritus of the foundation formed more than 25 years ago to seek financial redress for R&B singers who had not been paid fairly for their recordings and performances.

The house at 117 William St. has five bedrooms and three bathrooms in 3,776 square feet of living space on a 31,493-square-foot lot with views of Vineyard Haven Harbor, according to Zillow. You can take a virtual tour of the property in the video accompanying this article.

The buyers paid an additional $44,000 fee to the Martha's Vineyard Land Bank. State excise tax on the transaction was $10,032.
