Rising Salaries Make Mass. One of Best States for Teachers, Report Says

Massachusetts ranked No. 4 on a survey of the best states in the country for teachers.

Massachusetts is one of the top five states in the country for teachers, according to a new report.

The personal finance network WalletHub ranked each state in its “ Best and Worst States for Teachers” list, which was released ahead of World Teachers DayOct. 5.

Massachusetts was ranked No. 4. It was the only New England state to crack the top 15.

The Bay State’s high ranking was due to rising teacher salaries and high per-pupil spending, according to WalletHub.

The teaching field in Massachusetts and other states, however, has a high turnover rate. According to the National Center for Education Statistics, about 20 percent of new teachers leave their job within a year and about half leave within five years.
