Small Plane Crashes After Departing From Martha's Vineyard
Three people and a dog were rescued after the plane crashed into the woods in Leicester.
MARTHA'S VINEYARD, MA — A small plane that departed from Martha's Vineyard Airport crashed on its way to Worcester Regional Airport on Tuesday, reported the Martha's Vineyard Times.
The 2014 Piper PA-46 crashed in the woods off of Moosehill Road in Leicester in Leicester at approximately 5 p.m., said a news release from Leicester police. Spencer emergency personnel and the Massachusetts Environmental police also responded to the crash.
Police said the crash site was quickly identified and responders were able to bring two passengers from the plane to waiting ambulances with the help of good Samaritans on snowmobiles. The third passenger was rescued from the woods on a stokes basket. A small dog was also rescued from the plane.

"All occupants on board sustained some sort of injuries but none appear to be life threatening," said the news release. "The dog was taken care of by Leicester ACO and did not appear to be injured."
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), and the Massachusetts State Police were notified and are investigating the cause of the crash. Because the site of the crash is so far from the road, Leicester Highway Department used two large pieces of heavy equipment to clear a path for investigators, said police.
