'Stay Indoors': Blizzard to Drop 8-12 Inches on Martha's Vineyard
Winter Storm Jonas will bring 8-12 inches of snow and 65 mph winds for Martha's Vineyard Saturday. Residents are urged to stay indoors.

MARTHA’S VINEYARD, MA — Martha’s Vineyard will get battered with 8-12 inches of snow and 65 mph winds Saturday as a blizzard bears down on the region.

The National Weather Service issued a blizzard watch for Martha’s Vineyard and Block Island starting Saturday at 1 p.m. There will be 8-12 inches of heavy, wet snow—accompanied by 65 mph wind gusts. Power outages are likely.
The heaviest part of the storm will hit Saturday afternoon, when there could be whiteout conditions. Martha’s Vineyard residents should stay indoors, NWS said.

The snow is expected to start around noon and end around midnight.

- A BLIZZARD WARNING IS IN EFFECT FROM 1 PM SATURDAY TO 1 AM EST SUNDAY...
- LOCATIONS...BLOCK ISLAND AND MARTHAS VINEYARD.
- HAZARD TYPES...HEAVY SNOW AND BLIZZARD CONDITIONS.
- ACCUMULATIONS...SNOW ACCUMULATION OF 8 TO 12 INCHES.
- TIMING...THE SNOW WILL BE HEAVY AT TIMES AROUND MIDDAY. THE BRUNT OF THE STORM WITH HEAVY SNOW...STRONG WINDS AND BLIZZARD CONDITIONS WILL OCCUR THIS AFTERNOON AND EVENING. SNOWFALL RATES MAY REACH 2 TO 3 INCHES AN HOUR AT TIMES. WIND GUSTS TO 55 MPH WILL COMBINE WITH THE HEAVY SNOW TO PRODUCE WHITEOUT CONDITIONS. THE SNOW WILL BEGIN TO TAPER OFF AFTER MIDNIGHT.
- IMPACTS...DANGEROUS TRAVEL WITH HEAVY SNOW AND POOR VISIBILITIES. HEAVY WET SNOW COMBINED WITH STRONG WINDS WILL RESULT IN SCATTERED POWER OUTAGES.
- WINDS...NORTHEAST 30 TO 40 MPH WITH GUSTS UP TO 56 MPH.
