Steamship Authority Employee Tests Positive For Coronavirus

The employee works on Martha's Vineyard ferry and tested positive on Saturday, Feb. 20.

MARTHA'S VINEYARD, MA — A Steamship Authority (SSA) employee who works on the Martha's Vineyard ferry has tested positive for COVID-19, reported the Martha's Vineyard Times.

The crew member last worked on the shift beginning with the 12 p.m. trip leaving Woods Hole on Friday, Feb, 12 and ended with the trip arriving in Woods Hole at 11 :30 a.m on Saturday, Feb. 13, according to an SSA news release.

Following that shift, the employee started having symptoms of COVID-19 and got tested, receiving positive results on Saturday, Feb. 20 and immediately notifying the company.

Those who may have been in close contact with the crew member have been notified and there will be no schedule changes or interruptions as a result of the positive case, said the SSA.

All SSA vessels are disinfected on a regular basis and employees are told not to come to work if they are not feeling well, said the company.
