Vineyard Transit Authority Facing 2 Lawsuits
The Vineyard Transit Authority of Martha's Vineyard is facing two lawsuits in connection with discrimination and a struck pedestrian.
MARTHA'S VINEYARD, MA — The Vineyard Transit Authority is facing two lawsuits. One alleges racial discrimination, and another alleges negligent driving after a pedestrian was struck by a VTA bus, according to Martha's Vineyard Times.
The newspaper reported that the plaintiff in the discrimination suit, Kevin Brooks, is suing the VTA and the bus driver who did not pick him up in Edgartown last year, later saying, "Well it's because you're black." The bus driver's job was later terminated.
The other law suit is in connection with a pedestrian that was struck by the bus as he was crossing Church Street last year. The pedestrian, who is the plaintiff in the suit, suffered serious injuries.
