Weekend Gardener: Journaling and Planning

Time to get out last year's journal and start planning this year's garden

This week our Weekend Garden expert, Laura Stone from said it’s time to get out last year’s gardening journal.

“Keeping a gardening journal is great because there is a whole year between when you planted last year and now and there are sure to be things you forgot,” she said. Stone advised that before you start looking into getting started on those warm-weather loving plants, “Review what you wrote about your plants last year. What succeeded? When did you start your seeds? Did you think it was too early or too late?”

Second, it’s a great weekend to “Make a drawing of the garden you are planning for this year so you know what plants are going to go where.”

One thing that Stone said she learned recently is that, “Foxglove roots are poisonous, and if you plant them with veggies and herbs you can get really sick.” So keep the foxglove out of the vegetable garden!

Happy gardening!
