The American Legion Post 110 Medfield is pleased to announce the names of the 2021 high school student recipients of four (4) $1,000 Scholarships awarded to selected graduating seniors from Medfield and Bedford High Schools.

Two Scholarships were awarded in memory of Al Manganello who was the heart and soul of Medfield Post 110. Al was a Marine who served in Vietnam and was the Post Steward for over 40 years. He served multiple terms as Post Commander and served on 14 Town Committees and was key to many Town of Medfield civic activities.

These scholarships have been made to children or grandchildren of Post members. The scholarship recipients include Jackson Foscaldo, grandson of Post member Paul Foscaldo and Ryan Doucette, graduating from Bedford High School and son of Post Member Eric Doucette.

Phil Burr Scholarship

A scholarship was also presented in memory of Phil Burr, a Medfield hero. Phil joined the Marines serving in Korea as a Platoon Commander. He was recognized for valiant service under fire receiving the Purple Heart and the Navy Cross. Phil taught in local high schools and was inducted into the Medfield High School Hall of Fame. A scholarship in Phil's memory was awarded to Anna Johnson who will be pursuing a career in teaching.

William Mann Legion Baseball Scholarship

Also a Legion Baseball Scholarship has been awarded to Dennis Folan in memory of former Medfield Police Chief William Mann. Folan played Legion Baseball and Mann served 20 years as Chief of Police in Medfield and was an avid fan of Legion Baseball.
