Consider Becoming an ORGAN and TISSUE Donor!

Medfield's Liz Sandeman, a passionate and dedicated New England Donor Services volunteer spreads the word...Importance of ORGAN DONATIONS.

Please consider registering as an Organ & Tissue Donor...

The month of April has been designated as National Donate Life Month in hopes of educating the public how to register as an organ donor and the positive impact you can make by doing so. It is also about dispelling the myths surrounding registering as an organ donor. As an organ and tissue donor you can save up to 8 lives, transform the lives of up to 75 people and restore sight to 2 people through cornea donation.

A Donate Life flag will hang inside the lobby of the Town Hall for the month of April. Medfield resident Liz Sandeman along with Town Administer, Kristine Trierweiler posed together with the DONATE LIFE flag outside of Town Hall.

Sandeman, a Medfield Lion, who represents the Massachusetts Lions Organ Donor Awareness committee at April Donate Life events, together with Mayors, Senators, Representatives, Donor families and Recipients at City Halls and State Houses throughout New Hampshire, Maine, Massachusetts and Rhode Island. Sandeman is also a volunteer with New England Donor Services and is passionate about spreading the correct facts that anyone can register as an organ and tissue donor.

Sandeman's sister T, died in 2014 waiting for a lung transplant. T had been on the waiting list for 2 years, before passing away at age 54.

"T is the reason why I volunteer. I don't want another family to lose a loved one simply because there are not enough registered donors. If you or your loved one needed an organ transplant to save your life or their life would you hope there was an organ available? If you answer yes, then I would ask you to consider registering as an organ and tissue donor" said Sandeman.

Organ donation is relatively rare. Whether you are registered or not, only 5% of all deaths that occur, do so in a way that organ donation is a possibility.
