Forty Ninth Week, Saturday's "Medfield Historical Minute"
A little something to read and learn to give you a little break during this time of boredom during isolation due to the Coronavirus Crisis.

A Medfield Historical Minute...
This "Medfield Historical Minute" is brought to you by town historian Richard DeSorgher.
A little something to read and learn to give you a little break during this time of boredom during isolation due to the Coronavirus Crisis. A different "Medfield Historical Minute" will appear each day during the Crisis.
"On September 27, 1985 Medfield experienced Hurricane Gloria, the first major hurricane to hit the town since 1955. It started blowing around noontime and peaked with 100 mph gusts around 5 P.M. All town roads were kept cleared for emergency vehicles, despite numerous downed trees and branches. Electricity was lost in large parts of the town for up to five days. It took the highway department six weeks to remove all the debris from the storm. Police officers worked extra shifts and EMT’s, auxiliary police, tree warden, highway and fire department personnel were all used during and after the storm."
