Forty Seventh Week, Monday's "Medfield Historical Minute"
A little something to read and learn to give you a little break during this time of boredom during isolation due to the Coronavirus Crisis.

A Medfield Historical Minute...
This "Medfield Historical Minute" is brought to you by town historian Richard DeSorgher.
A little something to read and learn to give you a little break during this time of boredom during isolation due to the Coronavirus Crisis. A different "Medfield Historical Minute" will appear each day during the Crisis.
"In 1918 the Spanish Influenza caused all Medfield public schools to close. All church services in town including Sunday schools were cancelled. People were not permitted to congregate in the lobby of the post office. The new Memorial Public Library was ordered closed by the Board of Health. The Board of Health issued the following: “During the prevalence of the present epidemic, parents are ordered to do all in their power to prevent the spread of the disease by keeping their children on their own premises as much as possible. All persons are not to gather in groups on the streets or in public places. Volunteer nurses are needed and will be compensated by the District Nurse Association.” During the period of September and October, 1918 seventeen Medfield residents died of the influenza."
