A Medfield Historical Minute...

This "Medfield Historical Minute" is brought to you by town historian Richard DeSorgher.
A little something to read and learn to give you a little break during this time of boredom during isolation due to the Coronavirus Crisis. A different "Medfield Historical Minute" will appear each day during the Crisis.

"In 1664 people in Medfield and in other parts of New England saw the last of a great comet which excited fear and awe. It first appeared on November 8, 1663 and continued until February 4, 1664. It was the third comet witnessed by the early settlers in the space of 12 years. The first in December 1652, second in February-March 1661 and the third above mentioned. Said one of the settlers “it appeared to be sent by God to awake the secure world and that all evil things which occurred in Medfield were ascribed to it.”
