A Medfield Historical Minute...

This "Medfield Historical Minute" is brought to you by town historian Richard DeSorgher.
A little something to read and learn to give you a little break during this time of boredom during isolation due to the Coronavirus Crisis. A different "Medfield Historical Minute" will appear each day during the Crisis.

"On February 18, 1717 Medfield was blanketed with a “great snowstorm.” The winter of 1717 saw snowfall perhaps never equaled since. In December 1716 something like five feet of snow fell. The snowy weather continued non-stop into January. The great storm of February 18 lasted four days. Many cattle perished, also sheep. The Middle Post Road from Boston to Hartford, Connecticut and passing thorough Medfield was blocked by the snow and not open for travel until March 4."
