A Medfield Historical Minute...

This "Medfield Historical Minute" is brought to you by town historian Richard DeSorgher.
A little something to read and learn to give you a little break during this time of boredom during isolation due to the Coronavirus Crisis. A different "Medfield Historical Minute" will appear each day during the Crisis.

"The first housing development in Medfield was begun in the late 1940s in the area of Pine and Summer Streets and then spread to the Lowell Mason Road areas in the early 1950s. Those moving in had much in common especially with children about the same age. In addition to the existing Summer and Pine Streets, the new development streets included Bella Avenue, Johns Avenue, Remsen Avenue, Castle and Meade Avenue. The building of the development was by John Pritoni of Walpole, who had married Bella Palumbo of the Medfield Palumbo family. Johns Avenue was named after the builder and Bella Avenue after his wife. When Town Meeting voted to accept Bella Avenue as a town street, voters refused to accept the name Bella and instead voted to name the street in honor of Lowell Mason who was born in the North Street house abutting the new housing development."
