HAWC Meets with MPD Chief Guerette.
HAWC had their many questions about Community Policing answered by the Chief.

The Hannah Adams Woman’s Club convened by Zoom on November 4th with guest speaker Medfield Police Chief Michelle Guerette. The Chief graciously responded to the many questions asked about the goings-on at the local level and discussed some of the MPD initiatives. Currently there are 19 full time police officers, plus part time auxiliary officers and crossing guards also under the Chief’s jurisdiction.
One of the Chief’s primary goals is for the community to become more familiar with the police force by increasing neighborhood policing on foot in the downtown area.
The Chief discussed common scams that may affect the community. The most common scam involves fraudulent unemployment filings. Anyone subjected to this should report it to the police department. Other scams include a call for a supposed grandchild in jail who needs bail money or another stating they won $1,000,000 and it can be redeemed after purchasing a $500 gift card. All these instances should be reported to police immediately.

Traffic congestion in downtown during certain hours was also discussed. As for speeding anywhere in town, there is a three pronged approach: Speed trailer, speeding warnings and finally, monetary citations. The town has experienced a reduction in automobile accidents and home break ins possibly due to more people staying home through the pandemic.
