The Committee has begun a fundraising campaign to re-install the Mill's water-powered turbine. The campaign kicks off at the beginning of the new year and will conclude on Memorial Day, 2021.
The turbine, which dates to the 1890's, is the most recent of a series of power plants stretching back well over 200 years. It has been refurbished and is ready to resume its role of turning the Mill's grist stones that grind grains into flour, malt and meal.
The estimated cost is $10,000. This includes engineering, wood and metal working and rental of a crane. Since being deeded to the Town of Medfield in 1989, the Grist Mill has truly been a community based initiative.....this is what has been accomplished thus far:

  • The Town's DPW has worked diligently to ensure the structural integrity of the dam that holds back Kingsbury Pond and channels water to the Mill.
  • The volunteer Mill committee maintains and enhances the mill building and the surrounding property.
  • Service organizations such as the Boy Scouts, Cub Scouts and God Loves Medfield have provided their talents and time on specific projects.
  • Generous supporters from throughout the Town have contributed funds to make thee projects possible.

These projects include benches, chairs and a bridge; a website with information about the mill's history; a memorial garden and the annual spring clean-up.
