Dear Editor,

"Medfield voters have an opportunity to make a meaningful improvement in our town's impact on climate change. You might think that as a small town we don't have a big effect. Thousands of towns might say the same thing. Taken together, small towns like ours do have a big impact.

Each minute of the day that we power our air conditioners, computers and x-boxes, hydrocarbons from deep underground get burned to make our electricity. That carbon will still be in the atmosphere for decades, trapping more heat in the air, land and oceans, and causing harmful
knock-on effects.

Vote FOR Medfield Energy Committee's two Warrant Articles, 21 & 22 at Town Meeting on Monday May 17 and you give our town the power to negotiate and buy emission-free electricity*.

This is a market-based, competitive process that many other towns already do. Chances are that you won't notice any change in your bill, but the power of our vote gives impetus to expand electricity generation from renewable sources. Renewables are already competitive with fossil fuels, but we need to choose them. Voting FOR also puts us on the path to achieving our state's commitment to eliminate greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.

*most of our power in Medfield is coming from generation plants burning natural gas, resulting in significant CO2 emissions. As our regulated electricity provider, Eversource will continue to ensure that our power supply is as reliable as today."
