Medfield Annual Town Meeting...

The Medfield Annual Town Meeting took place outdoors on Monday, May 17, on the Calvin Fisher turf field at 5pm. As registered voters/residents arrived and checked in at their respective precinct tables, the sky was dark and a few sprinkles of rain were noticeable, but by the time the meeting started, the sun was warm and shining down (and in the eyes) of the 400+ residents.

Due to Covid-19, the 2021 ATM was being held outdoors for the second year in a row. A great addition to the space were two giant video screens, one to the right and one to the left of the Moderator so that all in attendance would be able to clearly view the presentations given as well as the residents who choose to ask a question at one of the 4 microphones set up in different locations.

Town Moderator, Scott McDermott began the meeting with a moment of silence after reading the names of members of the community who had dedicated many hours serving the Town of Medfield over their lifetime and had passed away within the last year.

Out of town guests, seated in a special area on the bleachers, were introduced by McDermott and then the townspeople voted to allow them to remain for the meeting. Also introduced were those to the right of the Moderator; Town Counsel, Mark Cerel, Selectman Pete Peterson, Selectman Gus Murby, Selectman, Mike Marcucci, Town Administrator Kristine Trierweiler, Assistant Town Administrator Nick Milano, Administrative Assistant Evelyn Clarke, Town Clerk Marion Bonoldi and the members of the Warrant Committee to the left of the Moderator; Chairman Sharon Tatro, Kristine Barton, Amanda Hall, Ed Vozzella, Newton Thompson, Jeremy Marsette and Robert Sliney. Moderator McDermott also publicly thanked all town departments during these difficult times and especially mentioning the Board of Health.

McDermott then went over the Annual Town Meeting guidelines and the order of the Warrant Articles. Assisted by Town Clerk Marion Bonoldi, Article 14 was chosen as the first Article to address.

The Warrant was comprised on 37 Articles and all of them received YES votes with the exception of Article 12, which was dismissed due to Article 11 being passed.

As the meeting went on and the sun went down, the temperatures dropped and many residents bundled themselves while in their seats either with an added layer or blanket. The meeting was adjourned at approximately 9:30pm.
