Medfield Fire Sends 2 To Hospital, But Could Have Been Worse

The fire department said the call came in during a morning shift change, but the response was still swift.

MEDFIELD, MA — A fire in the basement of a home on Steven Lane could have been worse, but still sent two residents to the hospital with smoke inhalation, Medfield Fire said.

The fire was reported Tuesday morning around 8 a.m., just as a shift change was occurring. The fire was quickly knocked down before too much damage was done. It "could have been a lot more extensive" if not for the three department members in the station at the time of the call, the department said. A fire truck left the department within two minutes, despite the shift change.

The two residents were treated at Beth Israel Deaconess - Needham.
