Medfield Warriors Volleyball Splits First Two Matches

The Medfield High volleyball team played its first two games against St. John's and Xaverian.

The Medfield boys' volleyball got off to an inconsistent start this season.

An injury to captain Jack Kornet threw the team off track in the first set of the first match against St. John's, but the boys righted the ship quickly and came through with a 3-1 victory.

It was a tremendous team effort as everyone got involved, but special note should go to Jack Madej, Jonathan Wong, and Randall Miller, who each served well keeping the St. John's team off-kilter. Matt Johnson also had a strong game in the middle combining with Jake Berger on some nice exchanges. The passing of Matt Averill, Liam McNulty, and Tyler Wong allowed the setters to run some nice plays.

However, in the second match against a much stronger and taller Xaverian team, the boys faced a much more formidable opponent.

The final score was 3-0, but it was not indicative of the effort. In the end, the team had a few too many unforced errors and were improperly positioned on some plays to make. Matt Marie continued his smart net play with some well placed rolls over the Xaverian big men. Madej again led the team in kills.

The Warriors' next game is at Catholic Memorial Friday night.
