An Opportunity for Clean Electricity for Medfield
Medfield Environment Action and the Medfield Energy Committee are hosting an educational, community forum on Community Choice Aggregation on Tuesday, March 30, 2021 at 7:30 p.m.

The forum will be an opportunity for residents to learn about a Warrant Article that the Medfield Energy Committee is bringing forward to be voted on at Town Meeting in May. Community Choice Aggregation, CCA, is a method of buying renewable electricity in bulk for residents and town operations with potential financial savings and reductions in carbon emissions. Transmission and distribution of electricity will continue to come from Eversource, the existing utility provider in Medfield. By aggregating, a community gains leverage to negotiate better rates with competitive suppliers and to choose greener power sources. Larry Chretien, Executive Director of Green Energy Consumers Alliance will present and be available for questions. Over 150 cities and towns in Massachusetts have an approved CCA program or are in the process of developing a plan.

Medfield Environment Action conducted a survey in the fall of 2020 and 77% of the 500 respondents felt that the climate crisis poses a serious threat for people around the world. 90% completely (71%) or somewhat (19%) agreed to support and encourage local government in making policies that address the climate crisis. Adopting Community Choice Aggregation is one way for our local government to act.
In anticipation of the vote at Town Meeting in May, the forum will consider such questions as: how does CCA work? Will residents and the town save money? Can residents opt out? Is it a good choice for Medfield?
