2 Medford Artists Featured In Boston Public Art Installation

"Tasteful Boston" is an upcoming outdoor art installation that celebrates Boston's culinary history.

MEDFORD, MA — The Downtown Boston Business Improvement District on Oct. 2 will unveil "Tasteful Boston," an outdoor public art installation in which a dozen regional artists, including two from Medford, transform 12 utility boxes into works of art. The pieces will celebrate iconic elements of Boston's culinary history.

Prop-maker and set-dresser Rebecca Rose Greene offers a minimalist, richly colored and modern take on basil. Painter and advocate April Jakubic depicts the universal love for cannolis, as two happy, young customers bite into the traditional Italian treat. Both artists are residents of Medford.

The artists, whose proposals were chosen by a panel of judges from nearly 50 applicants, will paint the utility boxes over the next few weeks, serving up slices of Boston food history, including takes on famous coffee and candy companies, the foods of diverse cultures, indelible food locations across the city and some of Boston's best-known dishes.
