5-Day Long Island Forecast Leading Up To Christmas

Long Island probably isn't going to get a white Christmas, but a wet Christmas could be in the forecast.

According to the National Weather Service, there is a 40 percent chance it will rain on Christmas Day with a high of 41 degrees.

Rain is also likely on Friday night, Saturday and on Sunday night. There is a 20 percent chance of rain on Friday as well.

Thursday will be the coldest day leading up to Christmas, with a high near 38 and wind chill values between 20 and 30 degrees. Friday will have a high near 44 degrees and Saturday, albeit rainy, will reach a high of 57 degrees.

Christmas Even and Christmas Day will reach a high of 45 degrees and 41 degrees, respectively.

• Thursday night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 28. Light and variable wind.
• Friday: A 20 percent chance of rain after noon. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 44. Light southeast wind becoming south 5 to 9 mph in the morning.
• Friday night: Rain likely, mainly after midnight. Cloudy, with a temperature rising to around 48 by 1am. South wind 3 to 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.
• Saturday: Rain likely. Cloudy, with a high near 57. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.
• Saturday night: Rain likely, mainly before midnight. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 40. Chance of precipitation is 60%.
• Sunday: Partly sunny, with a high near 45.
• Sunday night: A 50 percent chance of rain. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 36.
• Christmas day: A 40 percent chance of rain. Partly sunny, with a high near 41.
• Monday night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 23.
