Antonietta Manganiello, Medford's 'Pizzelle Lady,' Passes Away

Manganiello loved to bake cookies for the Medford Police and Fire Departments, where she was affectionately known as "Pizzelle Lady."

MEDFORD, MA — A longtime Medford resident affectionately known to the police and fire departments as the "Pizzelle Lady" has passed away. Antonietta Manganiello died Sunday, Sept. 13.

Manganiello came to the United States from Italy when she was 20 years old, initially working as a seamstress while living in the North End and Somerville, according to her obituary. She was a Medford resident for more than 50 years and loved baking cookies, which she sent to military personnel overseas and to the Medford Police and Fire Departments.

"Each year around the holidays she would bake her famous Italian cookies and deliver them to all the stations," Medford Firefighters Local 1032 said in a statement. "She was a very thoughtful woman, and we’re keeping her family in our thoughts."

Visiting hours are Thursday, Sept. 17 from 4-6 p.m. at the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St. A funeral service with social distancing protocols will be held Friday, Sept. 18 at 10 a.m.
