Arlington Firefighters Rescue Black Lab From Mystic River
Lucy the dog was trapped in the icy river, but happily, she was brought to safety.

Here’s a story that ends on an uplifting note.
MSPnews.org reports that a black Labrador named Lucy was walking with her humans along the banks of the Mystic River in Arlington, and noticed delicious swans frolicking in an unfrozen portion of the otherwise iced-over river. Unable to control her doggie excitement, Lucy gave chase. Unfortunately, she had misjudged the integrity of the ice, which collapsed out from under her.
Fortunately, Lucy’s humans called the State Police in Medford, who contacted the Arlington Fire Department. Donning special outfits known colloquially as “warm suits,” Firefighters Chris Gibbons and Joseph Andrade swfitly braved the frosty waters of the Mystic, and were able to return Lucy to dry land. Arlington EMS deemed Lucy unscathed enough to go about her usual doggie ways, much to the delight of her humans.
