Commission Proposes New Historic District In Medford
The Historic District Commission is proposing the designation along Forest Street, which would include 120 properties.
MEDFORD, MA — The Historic District Commission and Historical Commission are collaborating to create historic districts in Medford. The latest proposal, a historic district along Forest Street, will be discussed at a public hearing Thursday, April 15.
A preliminary study was conducted last summer examining a historic district running the entire length of Forest Street between Medford Square and Roosevelt Circle, which includes 120 properties. Historic districts are designated to preserve and protect the distinct characteristics of buildings and locations within their bounds, maintain and improve the settings of those buildings and encourage new designs that are compatible with existing architecture.
The Historic District Commission opened a survey to gather feedback about the designation of the area as a historic district. Residents are also invited to attend Thursday's meeting at 6 p.m. via Zoom.
