CPA Property Tax Surcharge to be Implemented in July
Residents will see a 1.5 percent surcharge to property tax bills, which will be used support local housing needs and preserve outdoor space.
MEDFORD, MA - The City of Medford will start raising funds for the Community Preservation Act (CPA) by adding a surcharge to property taxes starting at the beginning of fiscal 2017.
The funds will be used for: preserving and restoring historical properties; supporting local housing needs; acquiring and preserving open conservation space; and improving parks and outdoor recreation facilities.
“We are excited to begin the implementation of the Community Preservation Act beginning in July,” Mayor Stephanie Muccini Burke said in an announcement. “This revenue source, along with matching funds from the state, will allow the City of Medford to plan for its future and have funds to make those plans happen.” The funds generated will be used to address community concerns such as:

The CPA was approved by Medford voters in November and will be funded by a 1.5 percent surcharge to property tax bills, which will be seen starting in July.
“As we go through this new process together, we ask for your patience,” Mayor Burke said in the announcement. “The funds generated from this surcharge will improve the quality of life for the entire community.”
