Crews Continue Construction on Medford's Cradock Bridge

The bridge has not undergone substantial renovations since the early 1900s.

Crews continued work on a multi-million dollar rehabilitation project in Medford Square over the weekend, installing a temporary bridge deck to accommodate traffic, while the Cradock Bridge at Main Street undergoes construction work.

The temporary bridge will bypass traffic issues while the $12.784 million project plays out of over the next three years. The work is being funded through the state’s Accelerated Bridge Program.

The Cradock bridge has not had a substantial renovation since the early 1900s. According to MassDot, over 25,000 drivers cross the bridge each day.

As part of the project, crews will demolish concrete piers under the bridge and work to rehabilitate the existing foundation. MassDot will install renewed stone archways, upgraded utilities, new pavement, sidewalks and bicycle lanes.

The project will be completed in multiple stages to allow travel lanes in both directions over the Mystic River while work takes place.
