DCR Eyes Summer Start To $2.7M Clippership Connector Project

MEDFORD, MA — The Department of Conservation and Recreation this week unveiled its final design for the Clippership Connector, as well as a rough project budget and timeline. The half-mile shared-use trail will extend from Clippership Drive, pass under I-93 and connect to Riverbend Park and the Andrews Middle School, establishing a critical link for the Mystic River Greenway.

The estimated cost of the project is $2.7 million. This fall, the DCR will complete permitting of the remediation area near Andrews Middle School and expects to start accepting project bids next spring. Construction will run from summer 2021 to spring 2022, the DCR said.

At a virtual meeting Monday, the DCR detailed the layout of each section of the path, including alignment, restoration and beautification efforts, lighting and elements such as benches. It discussed three previously unseen options for the remediation area near the Andrews School, which will be determined during the next phase of planning.
