I hope you are all surviving, hopefully even thriving, during this time. Personally, my April and May plans for organizing the basement and refinishing some furniture are still on the drawing board, and I prefer to spend my free time reading historical novels and Harlan Coben thrillers. Yet we are all well here and that’s more than many people can say, so I am thankful.
In this tempestuous and terrifying year, I think one good outcome has been for our companion animals. Shelters are emptying and many rescues have pivoted to online meet-and-greets for the cats and dogs in their care. I live across the street from a cat rescue organization and they have a waiting list for their kitties — a first.

Of course, we want all those beloved companions to stay in their new homes and we want to keep everyone safe during training. That’s why many dog trainers, including me, have moved to online training sessions, which work beautifully and have the advantage of being flexible with work-from-home schedules. Online training can be done in bedroom slippers, and doesn’t require bundling (or coaxing!) the dog into a car to get to class.
In-person or online, though, one question I often get is what to look for in a dog trainer. Read this month’s newsletter to find out more!
