Halalisa Singers: 'Resilience: A Virtual Choir Event for 2020'
Boston-based world music ensemble offers uplifting program of songs including a breathtaking arrangement of "America the Beautiful"

The Halalisa Singers are excited to announce the release of Resilience: An Uplifting Virtual Choir Event for 2020. From essential workers, to courageous protestors, to kids and teachers adjusting to online classes, to small businesses struggling through the crisis, to the millions of people affected by COVID-19, resilience has been a hallmark of the year and something we will continue to call on in the coming days and months.
While the chorus could not rehearse in person, they gathered each week virtually, led by Artistic Director and Medford resident Mary Cunningham. Their program, accompanied by pianist Trevor Berens and percussionist Bertram Lehmann, includes the African American spiritual "Guide My Feet," Abbie Betinis's "Resilience," the traditional South African song "Freedom Is Coming," and George Emlen's breathtaking musical arrangement of "America the Beautiful" with new lyrics by Noel Paul Stookey.
Selections can be watched individually by clicking on the song titles above, or sit back, relax, and enjoy the entire 27-minute performance here. For more information on the ensemble visit www. halalisa.org.
