Medford Apartments Went Without AC During Heat Wave: Report

Riverside Towers, which houses elderly and disabled residents, did not have air conditioning for much of the heat wave, a WCVB report found.

MEDFORD, MA — A Medford apartment complex went without air conditioning for much of the heat wave this week.

A WCVB report found that Riverside Towers, which houses elderly and disabled residents, did not have its air conditioning running. The property owner cited a state law requiring the heat to remain on until June 15 and said the air conditioning cannot run at the same time.

"This is completely unacceptable, and I've been on the phone everyday trying to get building management to turn on the AC before someone gets sick or worse," Mayor Breanna Lungo-Koehn wrote Tuesday in a statement on Facebook.
