Medford Gets 2 New Bocce Courts Through CPA Funding

The Recreation Department is planning free introductory bocce classes after the courts open this month.

MEDFORD, MA — Two new bocce courts will open in Medford, funded by the Community Preservation Act in partnership with the Medford Housing Authority. The courts, located behind 121 Riverside Ave., will be managed by the Recreation Department and maintained by the Housing Authority.

The courts will open Oct. 19 with a small ribbon-cutting ceremony, and the Recreation Department is planning free introductory bocce classes this fall. The next class is scheduled for Wednesday, Nov. 4, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Reservations are required in advance. For more details, visit www.medfordrecreation.com.

  • The courts are open from dusk to dawn.
  • Please restrict play to no more than four hours.
  • Courts are to be used for individuals or small groups (four people or less) for play. Organizations, tournaments, and large groups must obtain a permit from the Recreation Department.
  • No consumption of alcohol is allowed.
  • No profanity or foul language is allowed.
  • No loud music is allowed.
  • Bocce balls can be obtained at the Medford Senior Center during normal business hours.
