Medford Has A Plan To Address Contaminated Soil At Riverbend Park

A 1,000-square-foot corner of the park showed "exceptionally high" levels of contamination during testing.

MEDFORD, MA — The city plans to turn a section of contaminated soil at Riverbend Park into a meditative labyrinth space.

The 1,000-square-foot corner of the park, close to the Andrews School and adjacent to where the future Clippership Connector will link to the existing path network, showed "exceptionally high" levels of contamination during testing and is currently fenced off, officials said.

The city's proposal calls for capping the area with concrete to create options for passive use. It will hold a virtual public meeting Wednesday, March 3 at 7 p.m. to discuss the design and hear feedback.
