Medford Middle Schooler Finalist For State Math Competition
Adrita Samanta finished sixth in the MathCounts Chapter Invitational, making her one of 45 kids to qualify for the statewide competition.
MEDFORD, MA — A seventh grade student at the Andrews Middle School is a finalist for the statewide MathCounts competition. Adrita Samanta finished sixth in the MathCounts Chapter Invitational.
"By doing so, she qualified for the state round of the competition that will take place in three weeks," Faiza Khan, math director and co-advisor of Medford's Math Club, said in a statement.
The competition began with 2,000 kids from across Massachusetts. Only 300 students qualified for the Chapter Invitational, and Samanta was among 45 kids who moved on to the State Invitational.

The competition provides engaging math problems to middle school stuents of all ability levels to build confidence and improve attitudes about math and problem-solving.
This is Medford's second year participating in the Math Counts Competition.
