Medford Opens Cooling Centers For The Weekend
Here's where you can stay cool as temps climb to the triple digits.
MEDFORD, MA — To say the next few days will be hot is an understatement. Temperatures are expected to be between 96 and 102 degrees, with a real feel temperature of up to 112 degrees, in greater Boston from Friday to Sunday. People and animals are advised to remain indoors.
The following locations will be available from 10:00a.m. through 7:00pm on both Saturday and Sunday as cooling centers:
- The Community Room at 121 Riverside Avenue
- The South Medford Fire Station Community Room located at 0 Medford Street
- Tufts Tisch Library located at 35 Professors Row
- The Lawrence Memorial Hospital located at 170 Governor’s Avenue will also be open during regular business hours on Saturday and Sunday for cooling needs.
Remember to drink more fluids but avoid alcohol and high sugar drinks. Remember to keep pets hydrated and don’t leave them in a closed, parked, vehicle.

Please Keep in mind: Electric fans may provide comfort, but when the temperature is in the high 90s, they will not prevent heat-related illness. Taking a cool shower or bath or moving to an air-conditioned place is a much better way to cool off.
While the City of Medford Board of Health recommends staying indoors, the Tufts Pool and Wrights Pond will be open to all residents with or without permits from 10 a.m.-7 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
