Medford Resident Receives 2021 Commonwealth Heroine Award

MEDFORD, MA — A Medford woman is among this year's Commonwealth Heroines. Rep. Christine Barber nominated Lossa Julie Janvier, who serves on the Medford Housing Authority board, for the award, calling her a "strong leader in the Medford community."

Each June, the Massachusetts Commission on the Status of Women partners with state legislators to celebrate women across the state that perform "unheralded acts on a daily basis that make our neighborhoods and cities better places to live," Barber's office said in a statement.

Janvier represents tenants as a resident of LaPrise Village. In 2017, she began volunteering to distribute food to her neighbors and most recently served as a core member of the team at the Mystic Community Market food pantry.

Janvier worked daily during the pandemic to ensure children in Medford, Malden and Everett received meals and families who could not travel to the market received fresh groceries. She also serves as a translator.

"Lossa Julie Janvier is a strong leader in the Medford community, and I am grateful for her dedicated service," Barber said. "She goes above and beyond for her community and her selflessness, determination and commitment to helping others is invaluable. We are lucky to have Lossa working with us in Medford, and I congratulate her on the Commonwealth Heroine award."
