MEDFORD, MA — The city was recently awarded $200,000 from the Cultural Facilities Fund to support the installation of an HVAC system in the Chevalier Theatre. The project will also be backed by $300,000 in Community Preservation Act funds and $100,000 from Encore Boston Harbor, officials said.

HVAC – heating, ventilation and air conditioning – will be installed in the lobby, auditorium and dressing rooms this summer. The city will also repair and restore 19 windows in the main auditorium space and upper patron lobby using $88,000 from the Community Preservation Commission.

"We have seen an unprecedented influx of patrons to our square on the evenings of
shows," Mayor Stephanie Muccini Burke said in a statement. "Our businesses are thriving, so enabling the theatre to operate year-round will continue to support our business community and
economic development in the City."

Since starting operations in December 2017, the Chevalier Theatre has sold over 170,000 tickets and boasted shows featuring Beach Boys, Darci Lynn, Donny and Marie Osmond, and some of the country’s top comedians such as Amy Schumer and Trevor Noah. A $1 per ticket restoration fee paid to the city ensures it can continue to provide capital improvements to the Chevalier Theater to keep up with its growing needs, according to a city press release.
