Medford's Shacerra Young Wins Bay State Games Basketball Gold
Young represented Mustangs on Metro team that took home top spot at buzzer at Emmanuel College.

MEDFORD, MA — Medford High basketball player Shacerra Young was a key member of the Metro team that won the gold medal Sunday in the Bay State Summer Games competition at Emmanuel College in Boston. Young's team went 5-1 overall in the three-day event and won the championship on a buzzer-beating basket for a 54-53 victory against Coastal.
"Shacerra hit some very important shots," said Medford coach Molly Waitt, who was hired for the varsity head coaching job in June and was on hand to watch Young play. "I am very proud to see someone from Medford put in the effort during the offseason, and with great success."
Metro rolled to victories in its first two games with a 73-50 triumph against Southeast and 76-42 romp past Northeast Friday. On Saturday, Metro suffered its only loss of the tournament with a 75-55 setback against Coastal before it scored a 73-63 victory against Central.
