New Affordable Housing Development Proposed In Medford

A Malden-based developer is looking to build 378 apartments on Mystic Avenue.

MEDFORD, MA — A new affordable housing development has been proposed on Mystic Avenue. Malden-based developer Combined Properties, Inc. submitted an application to MassHousing under Chapter 40B, the state-mandated process by which low or moderate-income housing is built, according to Mayor Breanna Lungo-Koehn's office.

The proposal calls for 378 new apartments at 280 Mystic Ave., which is currently a commercial building. The mayor's office said it expects to receive notice from MassHousing in the coming days, opening the 30-day comment period for city staff and residents.

Combined Properties owns office space at 278 Mystic Ave. and retail space at 312-326 Mystic Ave. in Medford. The city will work with a housing professional to educate department heads on the Chapter 40B process and hopes to have that individual and city staff appear at a public meeting to address questions and concerns, according to the mayor's office.
