MEDFORD, MA - Medford High School students took an educational canoe trip of the Mystic River with teachers Doug Bowen-Flynn and Andrew Milne.

The teachers provided a short, dry-land canoe lesson and then the students got into the canoes. As they made their way down the Mystic River, they saw turtles, a bald eagle, herring, and other wildlife, according to a release. The group paddled past Medford Square and then came back and pulled out the canoes across from Whole Foods, according to a release. Everyone had lunch and then presented projects on the history of the Mystic River. The group then headed back, picking up trash along the way, according to a release.

At the upper lake, the canoes raced and arrived at Sandy Beach. The students saw the remnants of the Middlesex Canal, swam a bit, and then got back into their canoes, according to a release.
