Retired Medford Police Sgt. Cesar de la Torre Passes Away

Known as "The General," de la Torre retired in 2016 after 33 years with the Medford Police Department.

MEDFORD, MA — Retired Medford Police Sgt. Cesar de la Torre died Saturday. The Medford Police Department announced de la Torre's passing in a Facebook post over the weekend.

De la Torre began his career in 1983 and retired in 2016. Affectionately known as "The General," de la Torre commanded the Medford Police Department Honor Guard for several years.

The Medford Police Department described his presence as "larger than life."

"He was a loving father, grandfather, husband, son and police officer," the department said in a statement. "He will be missed by all. Rest In Peace, Sarge. We have the watch."
