Rosebud Diner Gets New Owner and More Nearby Bites

We know Medford residents don’t only stay in town when they want a night out and a break from cooking. 

Restaurant coming and goings, new businesses and the best dishes and recipes are among the items that have appeared on Patch sites around the region over the past month.

Below is a look at the restaurant and food stories covered in the past month.

Somerville

Food

Marty Bloom, a local restaurateur who founded Vinny Testa's and owns Mission Oak Grill in Newburyport, is close to cementing a deal to purchase Davis Square's Rosebud Diner, according to Bloom, who attended a Somerville Licensing Commission meeting. Bloom said he plans to leave the exterior of the diner untouched. However, he plans to renovate the interior of the diner and the restaurant space behind the diner. He also plans to revamp the menu, he said.

Craigie on Main's Tony Maws to Open in Old Kirkland Space in Somerville

Tony Maws, chef at Cambridge's Craigie on Main, is planning to open a restaurant in Somerville in the Washington Street space formerly occupied by Kirkland Cafe. Maws said his new restaurant doesn't have a name yet, but it would feature the "same ingredients that we cook at Craigie on Main." However, the new venture will be more "rustic" and "casual" than the popular Cambridge eatery, and it will have lower price points, Maws said, adding it would be priced to allow people to eat there more than once a week.

Arlington

New Deli 'Opening Soon' in East Arlington

Signs for “Anthony’s East Side Deli” recently appeared in the storefront’s windows, and the signs say the deli is “opening soon.” The space at 159 Mass. Ave. is at the corner of Mass. Ave. and Marathon Street. That block has seen a lot of action lately, as Something Sweet Without Wheat, a new gluten/wheat free bakery, opened at 169 Mass. Ave. and the new Barismo opened at 171 Mass. Ave. on Dec. 20.

Something Sweet Without Wheat Opens

Something Sweet Without Wheat, the new gluten/wheat free bakery in East Arlington, opened on Tuesday, Jan. 29, according to a Wednesday press release from its store manager, Teresa Fiore. The Woburn-based specialty bakery, which is also 95 percent dairy free and nut free, except for coconuts, is in the old Barismo spot at 169 Mass. Ave.

Winchester

Stone Hearth Pizza Opens

It's been some time in the offing, but Stone Hearth Pizza finally opened the doors of its new location in Winchester, according to the company's Facebook page. Stone Hearth Pizza opened in at the former T Michaels location at 528 Main St. T Michaels, which opened in 1986, was the largest storefront in Winchester Town Center before shuttering last winter. T Michaels' closure was due in part to declining sales.
