Stephanie Muccini Burke is Medford's First Mayor in 28 Years
Muccini Burke narrowly edged her challenger and will now replace Michael McGlynn after 28 years in office.
Stephanie Muccini Burke was elected Tuesday as the successor to long-time Mayor Michael McGlynn, who previously announced his retirement after 28 years in office.
Muccini Burke narrowly edged City Councilor Robert Penta, earning 52 percent of the votes to Penta’s 48 percent. In victory, she became the 30th mayor in Medford history, and just the second woman to hold the position.
In race for City Council, former School Committee members John Falco and George Scarpelli were elected to fill two empty seats. The other five incumbents were re-elected to serve new two-year terms.
