Sweet Celebration Marks $3M Medford Library Gift

The MPLF held a socially distant ice cream social to celebrate Michael Bloomberg's $3 million donation and launch a final fundraising push.

MEDFORD, MA — The Medford Public Library Foundation held an ice cream social Saturday to celebrate Michael Bloomberg's $3 million gift to the new library. The socially distant event also launched a final community push to raise the last portion of the building's cost.

"This is an important moment," Ellen Tonello, chair of the Medford Public Library Trustees, said in a statement. "We have raised $4.5 million and now turn to the community to contribute the last $500,000."

Colleen's and C.B. Scoops supplied the event with nearly 600 free ice cream cones. Families, MPLF supporters, library followers and ice cream lovers showed up to beat the summer heat.
