Tufts Police Offer Update On May 9 Car Fire and Bomb Threats

MEDFORD, MA - Tufts officials sent an update to community members on the May 9 car fire and bomb threats on campus. Below is the letter:

Dear Tufts Community Members,

We are writing to follow up on the incidents of the suspicious car fire and bomb threats that occurred on the Medford/Somerville campus on May 9, 2016.

The State Fire Marshal, Somerville Police, Tufts University Police and Massachusetts State Police are cooperating in the ongoing investigation. No arrests have been made. As is customary with such cases, further details are not available in order to assure that the progress of the investigation is not compromised. We ask anyone with information about the May 9 incidents to call the Somerville Police at 617-625-1600 or the Tufts University Police at 617-627-3030. The State Fire Marshal’s Office also offers a 24-hour Arson Hotline at 1-800-682-9229. The hotline is part of the Arson Watch Reward Program that provides up to $5,000 for information that helps to solve the crime of arson. It is funded by the property and casualty insurance underwriting companies of Massachusetts.

Continued efforts of our public safety agencies to resolve this matter are very much appreciated.
